COVID-19 pandemisi esnasında elde edilen tecrübeler, her sağlık kuruluşu için ileride meydana gelebilecek küresel salgınlara örnek teşkil etmesi açısından uygun protokoller hazırlanması gerekliliğini gündeme getirmiştir.
The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate and interpret emergency diagnosis and therapeutic methods applied according to clinical complaints in the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic process, in patients who apply to our faculty and are examined and treated by oral, dental and cervical surgeons. Methods and Requirements: The study was conducted retrospectively on patients who were declared pandemic in March and April 2020, the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Ege, the Triaj Clinic for emergency dental treatments and examined and performed treatments by the physicians of the Department of Oral, Dentistry and Chronic Surgery. The clinical tracking data of patients with the diagnoses found in the emergency classification, including demographic information, the reasons for application, the method of emergency treatment and oral findings and the measures taken, have been evaluated. Statistical analysis is done on the basis of the percentage distribution of data (%) and the average (±) standard deviation (SD) values. A total of 95 patients (41 women, 54 men; an average age of 38.51±16.80) were included in the study. According to the emergency classification of 45.3 percent (N=43) of these patients, the diagnosis is apse or bacterial infection that causes localized pain and swelling. The choice of treatment was to 60 percent of patients (N = 57) toothbrush. IN this retrospective study, non-operative toothbrush has been the most commonly used treatment option in patients who apply to the triage clinic during the pandemic period as a radical treatment option with a lower rate of aeresol formation and in accordance with the emergency definition. The experience obtained during the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the need for the preparation of appropriate protocols for every health institution to be an example of global epidemics that may occur in the future. Therefore, it is believed that the preparation of guidelines specifically to the patient and physician safety by local authorities in each specialty field will be a guide in the event of a possible global epidemic.
