Objective: to reveal the routine enema practice in the intrapartum in a versatile manner from the perspective of the midwives. Methods: This study was made phenomenologically with 12 midwives working in the delivery room of Aydin Maternal and Child Diseases Hospital between December 2015 and January 2016. The data were obtained through focus group interview with introductory information and semi-structured interview forms. The answers which were obtained from the open-ended questions and the data through the focus group interview were read line-by-line and also clear and analytical coding on the raw data text analyzed by content analysis method. Results: The data obtained from the interviews are collected under 6 main themes. Midwives reported that enema practice did not always necessary (n=2), the requests of the pregnant women were important and could not do if they did not want it (n=4), the reason for enema practice due to concerned about expecting the midwife who changing of guard to have had an enema (n=4). Also midwives reported that felt uncomfortable due to the position given to the pregnant (n=2) and the lack of privacy (n=1), they did not like to do this practice (n=2), they thought that women felt pain (n=3) and the shame (n=2) during the practice and wanted to self-administered enema. In case of a woman's fecal soiling during labor, the midwives reported that they felt nauseous (n=3) and uncomfortable about the smell (n=3), decreased motivation (n=2) and women were embarrassed (n=4), refused (n=3) and gave up pushing (n=2). Conclusion: This study revealed that midwives had complex opinions and experiences in enormous positive and negative about enema practice. Service provider quality can be improved and with the use of the enema according to the women individual opinions and wishes and contributing to the reduction of unnecessary intrapartum enema practice. The midwives said that they felt nauseous (n = 3) and uncomfortable about the smell (n = 3), decreased motivation (n = 2) and women were embarrassed (n = 4), refused (n = 3) and gave up pushing (n = 2).
