The influence of process parameters on the formation of Al coating on steel by planetary ball-milling

Abstract:

The effect of milling time, ball/powder ratio, and milling speed of planetary ball-mıllıng process on coating thickness was investigated by central composite design. The interaction effects of the factors were determined through Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The regression model was developed for evaluatıng the coating thickness. A Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used for measurıng the coating thickness. The results show that the ball/powder ratio was the most significant factor to maximize the coating thickness. The maximum coating thickness of 164 µm was succeed at a milling speed of 400 rpm, ball-to-powder ratio of 15:1 and milling time of 8 h. Although minimum coating thickness of 7 µm was attained at a milling speed of 200 rpm and ball/powder ratio of 5:1.
