Purpose: The study conducted between June and November 2013 in the Hatay province aimed at identifying species belonging to the family of Cicadellidae in an agricultural area where different cultures are grown using light traps. Method and findings: In the application ground of the Ziraat Faculty of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, a agro-ecosystem with different plant parcels (eas, cotton, potatoes, sweet potatoes, nuts, peanut butter and some kinds of vegetables) is placed in a Robinson-type fixed light hole and a weekly obtained type of insects related to the Cicadellidae family has been diagnosed and counted. It also assessed the density of species obtained from the 25-week sampling and the status of their populations. The study identified 30 species of 18 different species, some of which are known to be significant plant harmful or phytoplasma vector. Among the specified species were the most densely found species Cicadulina bipunctella (30.45%), Zyginidia pullula (20.75%), Balclutha punctata (15.23) and Psammotettix provincialis (13.26%). Overview: Identifying 30 species associated with the light hole and the Cicadellidae family, this method is a method that can be used to identify the cicadellid species. The importance and effect of the study: With this study, the determination of the species and populations of the Cicadellidae family in certain habitats, the study of the biology of the species has found that light traps can be used as a complementary method in addition to the methods used.
Aims: This study conducted in the province of Hatay between June and November 2013. it was aimed to determine the species belonging to Cicadellidae family in an agricultural area where different cultural plants were grown by using light traps. Methods and Results: The Robinso type light trap was placed in an agroecosystem where various plant parcel (maize, cotton, potato, sweetpotato, chickpea, sunflower, daphne) were present in application field of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, Agricultural Faculty. The cicadellid species obtained from the light traps were identified and counted weekly. Additionally, density of species of cicadellids obtained from the 25-weekly-sampling and their population levels were evaluated. As a result, 30 species have been determined from 18 different genus. It’s known that some of these species are important pest or phytoplasma vectors. Among the obtained species, Cicadulina bipunctella (% 30.45), Zyginidia pullula (%20.75), Balclutha punctata (%15.23) and Psammotettix provincialis (%13.26) were the most abundant species. Conclusions: Thirty species of Cicadellidae family were identified by light trap and it was concluded that this method can be used for the determination of cicadellide species Significance and Impact of the Study: In this study, it has been concluded that light traps can be used as a complementary method in addition to the methods used to determine the species and their populations of Cicadellidae family in certain habitats.
