Abstract:

Kumuks are one of the most important Turkish communities living in the Caucasus. The fact that the geography they live in is on the migration routes of the Turks and that they have an ancient past makes the Turkish spoken by the Kumuks more valuable. II. It is possible to find the traces of the vocabulary in the Orkhon Inscriptions, which are the oldest known written documents of Turkish, remaining from the period of the II. Köktürk State, in the historical and contemporary dialects of Turkish. Kumuk Turkish is one of these dialects. Kumuk Turkish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the Caucasus. Identifying the Köktürk lexical elements in different dialects of Turkish and revealing the similarities and differences in them will help determine the relationships between the dialects of Turkish. In this study, the vocabularies of Köktürk Turkish and Kumuk Turkish were compared and many common words were determined. Among these words, those that show different phonetic characteristics in Kumuk Turkish and those that are used exactly are classified and their meanings are emphasized.
