The invented tradition is a composition of practices that has a symbolic character, directly or indirectly guided by rules, and have a continuum with the past. This study will address the formation processes of nation and national identity in Iran during the Pahlavi Era and the roles and usage of invented traditions during this period with reference to national and religious symbols on banknotes, postage stamps, the official flag and ceremonies. In this regard, it will analyze the formation of national identity in Iran between 1925 and 1979 through historical and cultural aspects. Iran, which has witnessed significant national and international changes from the establishment of Pahlavi Dynasty in 1925 to the revolution in 1979, has endeavored to legitimize itself both in domestic and international spheres through highlighting its legitimacy with references to the past periods. In the study, the Iranian identity and Iranianness, which are created by the Pahlavis, will be claimed as an invented identity. It claims to contribute to the literature as it deals with the tools of the modern era and the practices of the past period and combines the concepts of national identity and invented tradition.
