Abstract:

This study was designed to examine critical thinking dispositions of the midwives working in the clinic and the third- and fourth-year midwifery students. This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The data were collected between 15 January-31 March 2018. The study was conducted in the XX region’s Hospitals and in Midwifery Department of XX University. Necessary permissions were taken for the study. The data were collected by information form, Critical Thinking Disposition Instrument. Mann Whitney-U test, One-Sample Kolmogorov Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and Non-parametric correlation analysis were used to assess the data. It was determined that the critical thinking levels of midwifery students participating in the study and working midwives were not high, and that there was no significant difference between the total score averages of the working midwives and midwifery students from the Critical Thinking Disposition Scale and the sub-dimension scores. (p> 0.05). It was determined that the critical thinking disposition levels of the working midwives and the midwifery students were low. It is recommended to involve critical thinking courses in midwifery curricula, integrate problem-based educational models into curricula, and to encourage participation by increasing vocational training activities.
