Abstract:

Curative resection of the liver metastases of the colorectal cancer is the accepted treatment method with the best disease free and total survival period. The literature was scanned to search for the result of surgical resection for liver metastases secondary to non-colorectal carcinomas which constitute the majority of metastatic tumors. The surgical indications, prognostic factors and results of liver resections performed with primary lesions as neuroendocrin tumors, gastric, adrenal, uterus and servical carcinomas, soft tissue sarcomas, germ cell tumors and malignant melanomas were evaluated. The evaluation of literature indicated that 5-year disease survival rate follow liver resection in selected cases is 40 %, which is similar to those seen with colorectal carcinomas. Most important prognostic factors affecting the disease-free and total survival rate were the type of primary tumor, duration of metastases (syncronic or metacronic) and the type of resection. It's concluded that the liver resections for liver metastases should be primary choice of treatment in selected cases.
