Abstract:

Turkish culture is an important culture that has a rich folkloric structure and has successfully spread from Central Asia to Anatolia and various other parts of the world. Our culture has many elements related to folklore. In this culture, hairstyling/coiffure, usually referred to together with clothing culture, is an aspect that attracts attention. The Turks, who are mentioned as having long hair in historical sources and who have made an important contribution to the definition of the "beautiful" of the East, frequently included the use of hair and parts of the hair in their literary works. The use of lovelock (zülüf), bangs, and forelock, which make up the parts of the hair, has appeared many times in Turkish folk literature, classical Turkish literature, and Sufi Turkish literature, as well as Turkish folk music. The use of the lovelock pattern in the relevant literary and musical fields is mentioned in the article. The meaning of the word lovelock and how it is described in historical Turkish sources are given. The uses in literary works related to the lovelock and the meanings of these uses in the sufi tradition as well as being an element of physical beauty are given briefly. The parallel use of the lovelock pattern used in folk songs (türkü) with written literary products is explained by giving short examples from folk song texts. During the study, more than eighty folk song texts using the lovelock pattern were identified, and a small portion of them were included in the article as short texts. In the article, the existence of common usages in different periods of our literature and their reflection in folk music was examined based on the lovelock pattern. Attempts have been made to analyze the place of the lovelock, which is an element of coiffure, in the cultural continuity, based on its use in literary traditions and folk songs.
