Abstract:

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been aimed at assessing the state of tracheostomy in the child intensive care unit (CYB) before and after the pandemic.Methods: A total of 57 children in the third stage CYB unit were tracheostomy patients considered backward.Children's mortality risk 2, children's mortality index and children's logistical organ dysfunction scores, prognostic scores, tracheostomy opening indications, family education process, deportation processes and the effects on the deportation process of the responsible surgeon who applies tracheostomy were assessed.For statistical analysis, MedCalc Statistical Software version 19.7.2 (MedCalc Software Ltd, Ostend, Belgium; https: //www.medcalc.org; 2021) was used.® The findings: In our institution, the tendency of pediatric surgeons to open tracheostomy during the pandemic process is higher; but it has shown a meaningless tendency (76,0 vs 24,0%, p=0,134). Before and after the COVID-19 pandemic; the prognostic scores between tracheostomy applied by autolaringologists and pediatric surgeons did not find statistically significant differences in terms of the periods of expulsion to the home. Although statistically meaningless, the periods of education of the parents of the patients (one-person education was preferred) and the processes of bringing the patients home were shorter. Result: Our findings emphasize that high-quality patient care, in accordance with the standard protocols for children's tracheostomy patients despite pandemic conditions, in accordance with isolated field education for parental education; predictive scores between tracheostomy opened by autolaringologists and pediatric surgeons before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, can be sustained without any meaningful difference between the time of delivery.
