Abstract:

The study reveals the elements that influence the news content in the editorial process from the collection of news to the publication while performing the journalist’s press duties. As determining elements on news content, "media workers, the impact of ideology at all levels, corporate effects, the effects resulting from the routine order of news preparation, the effects from outside the organization" were studied. In addition, the impact of advertising on commercial press news content on the media organizations that are an enterprise is clearly included in the reader’s expectations. All of this, with the flow of large capital into the media business, the public task of the media has remained behind the commercial nature of the press organizations. Therefore, there was intense sensitivity about the journalist's behavior in accordance with the principles of the press profession. Specifically, journalists are expected to be in responsibility against individuals and society while working for the freedom of the public to communicate, and to comply with the principles of professional ethics and journalism. The study emphasized the need not to ignore the elements that directly or indirectly affect the news, in addition to the maximum responsibilities expected from journalists during the editorial process. According to the data obtained from the interrogation carried out with parliamentary journalists in the TBMM, the elements that have a direct influence on news content in the process of reporting have been concentrated as "the general publication policy and the pressure and ideological misconduct that the press organization creates on journalists". In this context, the public’s right to communicate is not guaranteed by the responsibilities imposed on journalists and the principles of professional ethics and journalism, and there are proposals for the resolution of the problems that limit the freedom to communicate by movement from the factors affecting the news content.
