Abstract:

In the process from the neolithic period to the beginning of the 20th century, which we found in the first examples of basic needs-made ceramics, the ceramics, mostly with practical function, was in the forefront. But the changing production systems and the distinction of produced ceramics from the aesthetic concerns with the Industrial Revolution, the Arts and Crafts (England) movement has led to the birth of many movements one after another. The questioning of the practical, aesthetic and symbolic function in the Bauhaus movement, one of them, has also supported the production of functional forms designed with aesthetic concern. The free design of ceramics in the hands of an artist in different disciplines, such as Duchamp, without any functional concerns, only by the rules of creative power, interpretation as a prepared-made art object, has directed many ceramic artists, and in the postmodern process after 1960, it has contributed to the production of forms far from functional concerns. During this period in which the predictive function of thought was followed, rather than the practical and symbolic function, the aesthetic function came to the forefront, the ceramics were produced, personal, social, social and/or political speech, and some contemporary ceramics artists, such as Paul Scott, were the pioneers of this approach.
