Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes and views of nursing students towards distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic.This descriptive study was carried out with 340 (82.0%) students studying at the nursing department of a foundation university. The data were collected between 8 and 19 July 2020 using the online questionnaire. “Socio-demographic Question Form” consisted of 12 questions created by the researchers and the “Distance Education Attitude Scale” was used to collect the data. It was determined that 91.8% had internet at home and 59.4% had connection problems with the students. The total average score of the students on the scale is 56.91±15.63, the advantages sub-dimension average score is 40.23±11.06 and the limitations sub-dimension average score is 16.68±5.66. While 44.1% of the students found distance education methods sufficient for the theoretical part of the courses, 86.8% of them evaluated distance education methods for laboratory applications and 79.1% for clinical applications as insufficient. Nursing students have moderate level attitudes toward distance education, and they do not find distance education sufficient in terms of clinical and laboratory applications, so it is recommended to teach psychomotor skills face to face.
