Abstract:

In our old literature, the concept of the story was used as a general concept in the meaning of narration and recitation of an important statement. Genres based on narration like story, epic, fairy tale, fable, novel, legend, saga etc. were referred to as “story” in old literature. The name "story" was not a genre name in our old literature, it was a general name given to all works based on narration, and recitation. It doesn't matter if the narrative is short or long, a fifteen verses narrative or an eighty-thousand verses narrative can be referred to as "story". Narratives that fall within the scope of the story are quite common in the period of Old Anatolian Turkish. Masnavi of Hikâyet-i Öksüzce discussed in this study is a short masnavi with the characteristics of Old Anatolian Turkish language. The story takes place in the city of Madina on a Bairam morning and tells how the Prophet once saw an orphan child among the crowd of people celebrating bairam and children playing with one another. The story continues with the dialogue between the Prophet and the orphan kid. The given message in the story is about protecting orphans and showing compassion to them in terms of Islamic culture. The only known copy of the story is in Ankara National Library 06 Mil Yz A 752/4. The study con-sists of literary and language studies and the text, translation, index, and facsimile.
