Abstract:

Though many years have passed over the early speculations that human coronic gonadotropin (hCG) is effective in the treatment of obesity, its effectiveness has not been proven. Unfortunately, we are still facing the abuse of hCG, which is complicated with pulmonary tromboembolism. A 54-year-old woman who had no previously known illness visited the clinic with pluretic chest pain. There were no other symptoms. Two months ago he was addressed to a dietary center to lose weight and started 125 IU/day subcutaneous hCG injection with a diet of 500 kcal/day. Although the patient was in menopause, after the injections, complaints such as percentage redness, swelling in the breast, minor vaginal bleeding were developed. Vital findings and physical examination were normal. The value of D-dimer (610 ng / dL) was somewhat high. In the ventilation / perfusion syntigraphy mismatch subsegmental defects were observed. HCG injections have been stopped. Anticoagulant treatment has begun. Treatment continued for three months and there has been no problem until now. For weight loss, a ischemic dementia and a phenomenon of pulmonary tromboembolism developed during misuse of hCG has been. Even though it is not yet certain, similar facts reports raise suspicion that such events are somehow related to HCG. With the current facts, more attention should be paid to this point and urgently a legal regulation on the abuse of hCG as a dietary program should be prepared.
