Özet:

Purpose: To investigate the serum acute phase reactants like fibrinogen and C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum lipid profile in association with the development of retinal vascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: Patients with type 2 diabetes without retinopathy (NoRP) (n=35), with nonproliferative retinopathy (NPDR) (n=35) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) (n=35) were included in the study. Age and sex matched healthy persons (n=35) accepted as control group. Serum fibrinogen, CRP, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were determined in all participants. Data obtaining from groups were compared each other. Results: There was no significant difference of age and sex among groups (p>0.05). Plasma fibrinogen levels in study groups were found significantly higher than the control group (p=0.001). Plasma CRP levels in PDR group were significantly lower than the other groups (p=0.04). NPDR, NoRP and control groups were not significantly different by means of CRP levels (p=0.84). HDL and LDL concentrations were not found different among groups (p=0.16; p=0.09). Plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were higher in study groups than the control group (p=0.02; p Conclusion: Elevated levels of serum fibrinogen and changed lipid profile were determined in patients with type 2 diabetes.
