Özet:

Violence is defined as a fact that is the element of dominating or making. New meanings are added to the content of violence that can be defined in many different ways every day. When evaluated in terms of the phenomenon of violence, physical violence is the most common and widespread form of violence. The prevalence of violence among students or the choice of violence as a method for solving problems emerges as a situation that affects the social whole. For this reason, violence is an important issue that should be considered and evaluated by students, families and educators. This study was carried out in 42 secondary schools in Elazığ city center. While the schools were selected, there was no distinction between public and private schools. The study was completed with a volunteer-based questionnaire application by obtaining permission from the Ministry of National Education. The aim of the study is to determine what the students perceive from the concept of violence and what types of violence they are exposed to or apply. The results of the survey were analyzed using SPSS 22 software. In the study, frequency analysis, t test and ANOVA analysis were applied, finding revealed that high school student’s perceptions of violence were predominantly based on physical violence and personal traits were influenced by violence, and suggestions were made by considering the result of other studies for educators, families and students. We believe that this study is important in terms of revealing the perception of violence among students.
