This study aims to classify the detective vectors of natural and broken stone aggregates used in asphalt and concrete mixture obtained using image processing techniques with the help of artificial nerve networks. Images obtained from 2 different digital cameras with a resolution of 7.1 Mp (Canon EOS 350D) and 10 Mp (Sony DSC-R1) in 45o and 90o angles of 5 large aggregate types with different shaping characteristics (flat, long, round, corner, ball) have been pre-processed using the MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox. The classification process was carried out with the help of artificial nerve networks, with 9 separate and a total of 18 proprietary vectors for both angles of the aggregates. The results showed that image processing and artificial nerve networks are effective methods for the detection and distinction of aggregate characteristics, and the automation systems in aggregate stores will influence the efficiency, cost and time factors with these approaches.
