Abstract:

The Effect of Science Teaching Supported by Concept Cartoons on Secondary School Students' Conceptual Achievement, Motivation and their Attitudes to Science ABSTRACT This study aims to evaluate the impact of using concept cartoons in science course on students' conceptual achievement, motivation and attitudes about the course. The study group consists of 7th grade students at Sarioglan Imam Hatip Secondary School in Bozkir county of Konya. The two seventh- grade students in this secondary school have been randomly divided into two groups, one serving as the control group and the other as the experimental group. The subject titled "Structure and Properties of Matter" has been presented to the experimental group using concept cartoons and to the control group with the current teaching method. A concept test consisting of 18 questions has been applied to measure the success levels of the students. To determine the attitudes of the students about the course, Motivation Scale for Science Learning consisting of 23 items and Science Attitude Scale consisting of 22 items were used. The obtained data were analyzed using t-test. As a result of the study, no significant (p>0.05)difference has been found between the two groups in terms of conceptual achievement, motivation and attitude.
