Abstract:

Global warming, food/water crisis, environmental pollution and sustainability issues have become very important in recent years, and the environmental issue has come to the forefront in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. There has been an important literature in this area. When the literature on the subject was studied, it was found that the emissions of carbon dioxide, which often represent environmental pollution, were used for the environment. However, the issue of the changing environment is far from dealing with as a whole. In recent studies, ecological footprints have been used. The current study examined the effects of income inequality and commercial transparency on the ecological footprint for Turkey in the 1990-2018 period. In this direction, two different ARDL models have been analyzed. The first model showed that inequality and population increase lowered the ecological footprint and the food production index increased. Commercial transparency is meaningless. In the second model, income inequality and commercial transparency lowered the ecological footprint, while GDP, renewable energy and population increased the ecological footprint.
