Abstract:

This study, based on the Greco-Roman legendary tradition, also contains information about the origin of the name Dardania, the former name of the province of Çanakkale, and Dardanos, the founding ancestor of Troia. Thus, in the ancient times, the responsibility of the ozans, who saw a historical task in the periods where the writing was not, will be better seen, thanks to their memory, the importance given to the soya, the spiritual value that Dardanos had in the history of the city's establishment and the enrichment of it with myths. One of the reasons that direct us to this issue is that we do not have a compilatory study on the ancestral knowledge of Dardanos and Troia; the other is that the narratives and the “songs” are not just “defined stories” but some are the traces of important events of the unwritten time, transmitted from generation to generation on religious, cultural and traditions. If these myths were inventory, in the evolving time the art, even the tradition and, most importantly, our understanding of religion and "father" would remain unfounded. In this regard, Dardanos is a good example for ancient times.
