Abstract:

Robert Stebbins has contributed to the space of leisure time through years of ethnographic studies. The serious work on leisure time developed by Stebbins in the world the historic process is based on the old, but it has a new agenda in Turkey. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the importance of the use of this theory in tourism and recreation academic studies through the bibliometric analysis of the studies which benefit from Stebbins’ serious theory of leisure time and to contribute to future studies. The sample of the study; in the Scopus database, the theory was revealed between 1973 and today 2022, with 458 studies using the keywords "Title-title" and "Keyword-Keywords" of "Serious Leisure" and "Robert Stebbins". The data analysis process has taken advantage of the frequency analysis and the Vosviewer statistical program. The data is classified in different titles. According to the findings obtained between 1996 and 2022, 54 studies were published where the keywords "recreation" and "serious free time" were used, 51, where the keywords "tourism" and "serious free time" were used. According to the years, according to the sources they published, according to the authors, according to the institutions they published, according to the countries they published, according to the type of publication, according to the subject fields and according to the highest number of references. This study was conducted in Sakarya on 12 May 2022. It is presented as a summary in the form of a verbal declaration in the traditional Tourism Symposium.
