Abstract:

The determination of the expectations of the teaching candidates from the teaching profession is important in terms of contributing to the search for qualified teachers training. This research was carried out with the aim of revealing the expectations of teachers candidates in the Intellectual Disabled Teaching Programme regarding the teaching profession. The research is designed using the imaging pattern. The universe of research is a state university’s 78 teachers candidates who continue to the last class in the Faculty of Education’s Intellectual Disabled Teaching Bachelor Program and have already registered in the Teaching Application I course. The data is collected using a semi-configured interview technique, visually analyzed. The findings show that teaching candidates have their expectations from the teaching profession in terms of social, economic, professional development, legal and administrative regulations. Priority expectations of teachers from the profession include social expectations such as having a respected role, economic expectations such as high wages and economic privileges, professional development expectations such as service-in-training, participation in seminars and conferences, and legal and administrative expectations such as the freedom of clothing or the absence of out-of-space appointments. The findings coincide with previous research findings on the social, economic and professional development expectations of teachers candidates for the profession.
