Hadis usulü kavramı ilimler tarihinde ‘ulûmü’l-hadîs, mustalahu’l-hadîs, kavâ‘idü’l-hadîs ve usûlü’l-hadîs şeklindeki kullanımlarla kaynaklarda yerini almıştır. Hadis ilminin rivâyet ve dirâyet olarak ilk kez İbnü’l-Ekfânî (ö. 749/1348) tarafından ikiye ayrıldığı bilinmekle birlikte hadis usulü kavramı daha çok dirâyetle bağlantılıdır. Hadis usulüne dair tartışmaların ilk usul eserlerinin ortaya çıkmasına müteakip başladığı söylenebilir. İbnü’s-Salâh (ö. 643/1245) ile birlikte belli bir sistematiğe kavuşturulmaya çalışılan hadis usulü günümüz Arap dünyasında da birtakım tartışmaların ortaya çıkmasına yahut devam eden tartışmaların daha farklı yönlerle irdelenmesine sebep olmuştur.
The concept of ḥadīth terminology has taken its place in the history of sciences with the use of “science of ḥadīth”, “ḥadīth disciplines”, etc. Although it is known that the study of ḥadīth terminology was first divided into two as relation and dirayah by Ibn al-Ekfânî (d. 749/1348), the concept of ḥadīth terminology is more related to dirayah. It can be said that discussions of ḥadīth terminology started following the beginning of the first ḥadīth terminology books. The study of ḥadīth terminology, which was brought to a certain system with Ibn al-Salah (d. 643/1245) has caused some debates to emerge or to examine the ongoing debates from different aspects in Arab World today.
