Goal: Oulema melanopus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is one of the major hazards of grain areas in Turkey. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the population development, spread areas and guests of Oulema melanopus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in Hatay or grain areas. Method and findings: in the months of April and July of 2017, the population development of O. melanopus, the spread areas and guests of the Hatay province of Antakya (Central, Demirköprü and Serinyol), Hassa (Central and Aktepe), Reyhanlı, Kırıkhan, Samandağ and Altınözü districts were determined by tracking and observation in the grain areas. The grain seed ergini was captured for the first time on April 8, 2018 and has been determined that the damage for the year 2017 has been given 1 portion. The lowest population has been found in the district. Hordeum bulbosum L., H. murinum L., Avena sterilis L., A. fatua L., Agropyron sp., Lolium sp., Sorghum halepense (L.), Secale cereale L. and Triticosecale Witt are identified as plants where the damage is guest. General comment: The damage has been seen in all districts of the grain areas are damaged and washed. The importance and effect of the study: Cereal juice is fed with a large number of guest plants in both larva and adolescent periods. This study resulted in Hordeum bulbosum L., H. murinum L., Avena sterilis L., A. fatua L., Agropyron sp., Lolium sp., Sorghum halepense (L.), Secale cereale L. and Triticosecale Witt. The damage is identified as the guest plants.
Aims: Cereal leaf beetle, Oulema melanopus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is one of the most important pests of wheat growing in Turkey. This study was conducted to determine of population density, distribution area and host plants of the cereal leaf beetle, Oulema melanopus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in wheat fields in Hatay province of Turkey. Methods and Results: Population density, distribution and host plants of the cereal leaf beetle O. melanopus was inspected between April and July in 2017 in wheat fields located in different districts of Hatay province such as Antakya (Merkez, Demirköprü ve Serinyol), Hassa (Merkez ve Aktepe), Reyhanlı, Kırıkhan, Samandağ and Altınözü districts by visually and net. Adults of cereal leaf beetle caught first time on April 8, 2017 and had one generation in wheat fields of Hatay province in Turkey in 2017. Population density determined as low level in Kırıkhan district. Hordeum bulbosum L., H. murinum L., Avena sterilis L., A. fatua L., Agropyron sp., Lolium sp., Sorghum halepense (L.), Secale cereale L. and Triticosecale Witt. were determined as it’s host plants Conclusions: It was determined that wheat areas were infested by the pest in all districts. Significance and Impact of the Study: The cereal leaf beetle feeds on a wide range of host grasses, both in the larval and adult stages. Hordeum bulbosum L., H. murinum L., Avena sterilis L., A. fatua L., Agropyron sp., Lolium sp., Sorghum halepense (L.), Secale cereale L. and Triticosecale Witt. were determined as it’s host plants.
