Nonpharmacologic measures to reduce labor pain have been used throughout history. In the literature, nonpharmacologic pain control methods are analyzed under four groups; namely, relaxation, tactile stimulation, psychic stimulation and respiratory techniques. These methods, whose analgesic effects are explained with door control theory and endorphin theory, decrease anxiety and fear, increase pain control and support comfort at birth. But these methods have received limited attention in the literature and are not commonly available to women in maternal care units. In this article, it was aimed to review the current information on nonpharmacological approaches for management of labor pain.
