Sosyal Ağ Kullanımının Eleştirel Düşünme Eğilimine Etkisinin İncelenmesi

Bu araştırma, üniversite öğrencilerinde sosyal ağ kullanımının eleştirel düşünme eğilimine etkisini incelenmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. İlişkisel tarama modeli ile yapılan bu araştırmaya 2019-2020 yılı güz döneminde bir devlet üniversitesinin farklı bölümlerinde öğrenim gören 291 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri “Eleştirel Düşünme Eğilimi Ölçeği” ve “Sosyal Ağları Kullanma Sıklığı Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Araştırmada sosyal ağları kullanma amaçlarını ifade eden Sosyal Ağları Kullanma Sıklığı Ölçeği’ndeki maddelerin eleştirel düşünme eğilimine etkisini belirlemek için bir regresyon modeli oluşturulmuştur. Çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi ile test edilen model, eleştirel düşünme eğiliminin %11.5’ini istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir şekilde açıklamıştır. Araştırmada gündemi takip etmek, okul dersleri ile ilgili araştırmalar yapmak ve ilgi çeken konularda bilgi edinmek amaçlı sosyal ağ kullanımının üniversite öğrencilerinde eleştirel düşünme eğilimini olumlu yönde etkileyen anlamlı yordayıcılar olduğu belirlenmiştir. Hobi amaçlı olarak nitelendirilen sosyal ağ kullanımının ise eleştirel düşünme eğilimi üzerinde etkili olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara dayalı olarak öğrenme amaçlı sosyal ağ kullanımının eleştirel düşünmeyi olumlu yönde etkilediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The Effect of Social Networking on Critical Thinking

Abstract:

This study was conducted to study the impact of social networking on critical thinking tendencies in university students. This study, conducted with the Relational Scanning Model, included 291 students studying in different departments of a state university in the 2019-2020 year. The data of the study was collected using "The Critical Thought Trend Scale" and "The Frequency Scale of Use of Social Networks". In the study, a regression model was created to determine the impact of the materials in the Social Networks Use Frequency Scale on the critical thinking tendency. The model, tested with multiple linear regression analysis, described 11.5% of the critical thinking tendency in a statistically meaningful way. The research has determined that the use of social networks for the purpose of following the agenda, conducting research related to school courses and acquiring information on interesting topics is meaningful contributors that positively influence the tendency of critical thinking in university students. The use of social networks for the purpose of hobbies has not been found to affect the tendency to critical thinking. Based on the findings obtained, it has been concluded that the use of social networks for learning has a positive impact on critical thinking.

This study aimed to assess the effects of the use of social networks on critical thinking among university students. The relational survey model was used in the study, which was conducted throughout one academic semester with 291 students who were attending a state university. Data were collected with the Critical Thinking Disposition Instrument and the Scale for Frequency of Social Network Use. A regression model was created to determine the effect of the items in the Scale for Frequency of Social Network Use that indicated the purpose of social networks use on critical thinking disposition. According to the multiple linear regression analysis, the model significantly explained 11.5% of critical thinking disposition. Accordingly, it was determined that when used to follow current affairs, research school subjects and obtain information on topics of interest the use of social networks was a significant predictor of critical thinking. However, it was found that use of social networks was not a significant predictor of critical thinking when used for recreational purposes. Consequently, the findings suggested that the use of social networks has a positive impact on critical thinking when aimed at learning.
