Abstract:

Nursing education aims to develop students' cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. In this direction, pieces of training in clinical skills practice is carried out both to help students concretize their theoretical knowledge and to improve their skill practices. In clinical skills trainings given to nursing students, it is difficult for them to gain case experience and learn effectively due to difficulties such as limited clinical practice time, an increasing number of students, and violation of patient safety. For this reason, education should be given with the hybrid simulation method, which enables students to actively participate in the learning process and to practice in a safe environment by creating a realistic clinical environment. The hybrid simulation method is a teaching method in which two or more simulation methods are combined. A realistic case scenario is designed and implemented with the simulator and standard patient. Developing skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal communication, decision-making, and application supports permanent learning thanks to instant feedback received. Hybrid simulation, which is an innovative education method, should be integrated into the nursing curriculum in order to train qualified health professionals, enable students to practice effectively and efficiently in the clinic, and create an effective and active learning process. This article, it is aimed to present the history, aims, and benefits of hybrid simulation from a general point of view by considering the place of the hybrid simulation method in nursing education.
