Abstract:

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the levels of stress caused by infertility in primary infertile women and some factors affecting it. Method: This research, which is of a characteristic nature, was carried out at a private Tube Baby Center located in a province in the Mediterranean region, and the data of the study was collected between January-April 2016. The universe of the study was formed by primary infertile women who were treated in the relevant center between the specified dates.  The 577 primary infertile women who followed and agreed to participate in the study formed a sample of the study. Personal information form and infertility stress measurement were used in the collection of data. Results: The average age of women involved was 28.35 ± 4.11, 44%. 5 of them were university graduates, and 28.6 percent found that the cause of infertility was caused by their spouses. The average stress score of women in the personal area is 17.59±1.97, the average stress score in the marriage area is 10.52±2.13, the average stress score in the social area is 7.18±2.76. According to the education level of women, their professions, income levels, where they live, the cause of infertility, infertility and marriage periods, periods of treatment, the type of previously received treatment and how they meet the treatment costs, the difference between the low-dimensional score average (p<0.05) has been determined to be significant. The result: Infertile women experience a high level of stress in their personal and marriage sphere, while in the social sphere they experience a medium level of stress. It has been determined that women’s level of education, their professions, their income levels, their place of living, the cause of infertility, infertility and marriage periods, treatment periods, the type of treatment previously received and the ways to meet treatment costs affect stress levels.
