Abstract:

In the Ottoman book and library culture research, the use of Ottoman resources in addition to the use of Western resources is an important topic. Especially in the period 1453-1699 there are very few studies that benefit from Western resources on the Ottoman book and library culture. This is why there is a lack of research in the Roman books and library culture related to the period. The importance of first-hand sources in historical research is great. One of the first-hand Western sources on the Ottoman history is travel. Because travel names provide us with information and findings based on direct observation in the period of our subject. Travel is used as a source in many studies in the Ottoman history field, but its use in the Ottoman book and library culture has remained insufficient. In our work aimed at removing the deficiency in this regard, it has been found that 122 Western travelers have observations related to topics surrounding the Ottoman book and library culture and that they have written these observations to their travel or works.
