Güreşin mazisi, tarihin derinliklerinde köklü bir spordur. Güreş, bütün toplumlarda farklı isimler altında, yöresel kurallara bağlı olarak yapılmıştır. Afrika’da kadınlar, güreşi sadece bir spor olarak görmemekteydiler. Onlar için güreş, ergenlikten kadınlığa geçişin bir sembolü olduğu gibi, toplum içerisindeki statülerini artırmak için de bir araçtı. Yapılan bu çalışmanın amacı, İslamiyet’in Afrika Kıtasındaki geleneksel kadın güreşi üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Yapılan bu araştırma, tarihsel çalışmalarda kullanılan tarama modeli ve tarihsel araştırma metodu ile yapılandırılmıştır. Tarihsel araştırma metodu; kitap, belge, dosya, resmi ve özel yazışma evrakları; yabancı dilde bilgi ve belgelerin incelenmesi, tercüme edilmesi, okunması ve değerlendirmesine dayanan bir yöntemdir. Çalışmanın sonunda, İslamiyet’in Afrika Kıtası’ndaki geleneksel kadın güreşi üzerinde olumsuz etkisi olduğu anlaşılmıştır. İslamiyet’in etkisiyle kadınların güreş alanlarında giydikleri kıyafetler daha kapalı olmaya başlamıştır.
The game is a sport in the depths of history. The competition was held under different names in all communities, according to local rules. In Africa, women didn’t see competition as just a sport. For them, the struggle was a symbol of the transition from adolescence to female, as well as a tool to enhance their status within society. The aim of this study is to reveal the influence of Islam on the traditional women’s struggle in the African continent. This research is structured by the scanning model and the historical research method used in historical studies. The historical research method is a method based on the study, translation, reading and evaluation of books, documents, files, official and private correspondence documents and information and documents in a foreign language. At the end of the study, it was understood that Islam has a negative impact on the traditional women’s struggle in the African continent. With the influence of Islam, the clothes that women wear in the fields of fighting began to become closer.
