Özet:

The digital environment holds an active role in transferring cultural and national values to younger generations. This study is based on the dream memorates in “The Ones Not Fit into the Coffin” program, which was shot and serialized on YouTube broadcast for various purposes such as paying the debt of loyalty to the martyr, instilling national values to the younger generations, explaining the difficult lives of the martyrs, introducing the families of the martyrs to wider audiences, reminding them and keeping them unforgotten. Under the umbrella of this, firstly, general information about the term memorate and dream memorates was provided, then the memorates compiled from the program were examined in line with certain features such as the way of formation, performance, content and functions in the socio-cultural tradition. It is essential to evaluate the formation of the memorates, which are the subject of the study, in two phases as being the supernatural experiences: before and after the martyrdom. While it is believed that the dreams seen before the martyrdom herald martyrdom by hariolating, it is believed that in the dreams seen after the martyrdom, communication is made with the martyrs and messages and news are received from them. In this context, in the formation of the aforementioned memorates, the desire to become a martyr depending on the Islamic conception of martyrdom, the feelings of the martyrs’ relatives such as longing, separation, yearning, curiosity, worry, pain, anxiety, love, the world view of the people who had the supernatural experience, the socio-cultural aspects of the Turks, especially Turkish folk beliefs, which have evolved from the past to the present, have been influential. Under the light of analyses, it was determined that the dream memorates regarding the martyrs consisted of “cultural memorates” and “personal memorates” including the imaginations and general opinions of the Turkish nation. Plus, it has been determined that the dream memorates which are examined have functions such as preparing people who have experienced supernatural experiences for martyrdom, warning them about certain issues, relieving and motivating them.
