Paget's disease of bone is a common condition characterized by bone pain, deformity, pathological fracture, neurologic disorders and an increased incidence of osteosarcoma in the elderly people. Genetic factors play a role in the pathogenesis of Paget's disease but the molecular basis of the disease remains unclear. Histopathologically the disease is characterized by markedly increased osteoclast formation and bone resorption followed by excessive new bone formation. Frequently the diagnosis is made as an incidental finding on X-ray, or it is considered because of an unexpected elevation in serum alkaline phosphatase. Paget's disease can reduce both function and mobility, and can be associated with psychological problems. Therefore, quality of life may be reduced in patients with Paget's disease. We report a patient with Paget's disease and discuss features of this disorder which is of importance in the elderly population.
