Abstract:

Introduction: The professional perspective in nursing affects the perception of the student’s nursing image. Purpose: This research has been done as a identifying purpose to determine the professional professionalism attitudes of a public university’s Faculty of Health Sciences’ nursing department students. Method: The universe of research, a public university's Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Nursing, which continues to the 2016-2017 educational and academic year 3 and 4. Class students (N: 210) were created, and the sample was created by 123 students who accepted to participate in the research (N: 123). To collect the research data, the Demographic Information Form and Student Nurses’ Professional Attitude Scale were used. The Student Nurses' Professional Attitude Scale, Hisar and Friends (2010) has been developed. The scale consists of 28 matters and 8 sub-dimensions. The sub-dimensions of the scale are: Contribution to the increase of scientific knowledge, Autonomy, Cooperation, Qualification and Continuous Education, Participation in Professional Organizations and Professional Development, Working in Committees, Social Service, Ethical Codes and Theory. As the scale score increases, the professionalism attitude increases (min: 28, max: 140). The Chronbach alpha value of the scale was .91 for this study. The average age of nursing students is 21.12 ± 1.92 years. The average student’s overall professionalism attitude score was high (110.13 ± 15.73). The average score received from the lower dimensions of the scale consistentlyThe high average score contributed to the increase of scientific knowledge, cooperation autonomy, competence and continued education, social service, ethical codes and theory, participation in professional organizations and professional development, the committees were found to be received from the size of work. Results: The study found that the average score of nursing students of 3rd and 4th classes that they wanted to engage in activities aimed at increasing the professional knowledge burden after graduation and the students who love the nursing profession received from the autonomy dimension was high and meaningful compared to the other dimensions. The student’s overall professional attitudes are high.
