This paper investigates the effects of the unsupported length parameter on shear behavior of laterally loaded masonry walls. For this aim, six masonry wall models with different length and with an opening in the middle of the walls are considered for the nonlinear analysis. During analyses, masonry units are assumed as elastic blocks bonded with inelastic interface elements. All models are assumed as confined masonry, bonded with a horizontal top beam and vertical tie-columns on both vertical sides of opening and also end of the walls. Simplified micro modeling approach is used for the modeling. Besides, the results of the analyses are criticized and compared with code requirements. Optimum unsupported masonry wall length should be approximately 1.5m-1.8m according to the results of the analyses.
