Kur’ân’ın rey ile tefsirine yönelik olumsuz yaklaşım, geçmişten beri çeşitli mahfillerde kendisine yer bulmuş bir eğilimdir. Zamanla Kur’ân’ın tefsirine de olumsuz yaklaşma-ya kadar uzanan bu tepkisel yaklaşım, insanların din hakkındaki bilgisini sadece nakil-de bulunmaya, davranışlarını ise taklit yapmakla sınırlandırma yoluna gitmiştir. Din hakkında böyle bir yaklaşımın meşru bir zemine oturtulabilmesi için söz konusu yaklaşım, kendisine sahabenin Kur’ân ile olan ilişkisini hedef almıştır. Buna göre sahabe Kur’ân’ı asla rey ile tefsir etmemiştir. Sahabenin yaptığı sadece Hz. Peygamber’den işittikleri veya yapıp ettiklerinden gördüklerini nakletmekten ibaret olmuştur. Onlar Kur’ân hakkında rey ile tefsire başvurmamışlar, hatta tefsir bile yapmamışlardır. Zira sahabe Hz. Peygamber’den nakledilen rivayetler gereği, bunu günah kabul eder, Kur’ân hakkında görüş beyan etmezlerdi. Yaptıkları sadece Hz. Peygamber’den nakil-de bulunmak olmuştur. Buna göre bütün Müslümanların da Kur’ân ile olan ilişkilerinin nakil ve taklitten ibaret olması gerekir.
