Edebiyat dergileri, edebiyatın nabzının attığı ve aktüelin öncelendiği platformlardır. İki kutuplu bir dünyanın kurulduğu 1950’li yıllarda, Türkiye’de iki kutuplu bir siyasî hayat hâkimdir. Böyle bir ortamda, edebiyat düzleminde de farklı ideolojiler seslerini duyurabilmek için kendi dergilerini çıkarma çabasına girerler. Merkezde şiddetli polemiklerin yaşandığı edebiyat dergilerinde, aynı dönemde “Türkiye’nin Tek Şiir Dergisi” sloganıyla, taşradan sesini duyurmaya çalışan ve şairliğini tescillemek isteyen heveskâr gençlere sayfalarında yer açan bir dergi ortaya çıkar: Şairler Yaprağı. Taşralı, varlıklı bir işadamı olan Nedret Gürcan’ın çıkardığı ve Afyon’un Dinar ilçesinden tüm yurda sesini duyurarak dönemin tanınmış bir edebiyat dergisine dönüşen Şairler Yaprağı, 1 Mayıs 1954 ile Temmuz Ağustos 1957 tarihleri arasında 36 sayı yayımlanır. Kendi seslerinin taşrada bir yankısı olması maksadıyla Ankara’da çıkan Mavi dergisinin yazar kadrosunun özelikle yazı göndererek desteklediği dergi, Nedret Gürcan’ın dönem şairleriyle olan kişisel ilişkileri sayesinde dönemin şöhretli şairlerinden de destek görür. Dönemin taşrasının maddi ve manevi zorluklarını aşarak var olma mücadelesi veren Şairler Yaprağı, 1950’li yılların edebiyat dünyasını domine eden ve dönemin kanonu denebilecek Varlık, Mavi, Hisar, Yeditepe, Pazar Postası, Seçilmiş Hikâyeler Dergisi gibi dergilerin yanında, edebiyatın seyrini değiştiren bir işlevi olmasa da taşranın sesi olması ve Mavi’nin bir nevi taşra şubesi gibi iş görmesi bakımından önemsenmesi gereken bir dergidir.
Literary magazines are platforms where the pulse of literature beats and the actual side of it is followed. In the 1950s, when a bipolar world was established, a bipolar political life was also maintained in Turkey. On the literary aspect, different ideologies have tried to publish their own magazines in order to become popular. While in the literary magazines where severe polemics took place in the center, at the same time, a magazine emerged with the slogan “Turkey’s Only Poetry Magazine”, in the pages of which enthusiastic young people from the province who tried to make their voices heard and wanted to solidify their poesy appeared: Şairler Yaprağı [Poets’ Leaf]. Şairler Yaprağı [Poets’ Leaf], which was published by Nedret Gürcan, a wealthy businessman from the provinces, and became a well-known literary magazine of the period, making its voice heard all over the country from Afyon’s Dinar district, was published in 36 issues between 1 May 1954 and July August 1957. The magazine, which is especially reinforced by the writers of the Mavi [Blue] magazine published in Ankara, to make their voices echo in the provinces, also gets the support of the notable poets of the period, thanks to Nedret Gürcan’s personal relationships with the poets of the period. Şairler Yaprağı, which strive to survive by overcoming the material and moral difficulties of the province of the period, does not have a changing function in the course of literature compared to magazines such as Varlık [Wealth], Mavi [Blue], Hisar [Citadel], Yeditepe [Seven Hills], Pazar Postası [Sunday Mail], Seçilmiş Hikâyeler Dergisi [Selected Stories Magazine], which dominated the literary world of the 1950s and can be called the canon of the period. However, it is a magazine that should be taken seriously as it is the voice of the province and acts as a sort of provincial agency of Mavi [Blue].
