It is a known fact that efficient management is crucial in solving health problems. The fact that the managers assigned to health institutions and organizations have not received any education on this topic, causes many problems in the performance of duties. With this study, it was aimed to establish the general characteristics of “Health Managers” in the province of Kayseri, and to determine the difficulties they encounter while performing their duty. The managers in the provincial directorate of health, the ones in the primary and secondary health care centers were enrolled in this descriptive study. A questionnaire was applied face-to-face to these participants.Three forth of the 78 managers enrolled were male, and one forth was female, the mean age was 42.1 ± 8,1 in men, and 37.1 ± 6.7 in women. Of the research group, 61.9% of the female managers were head nurses or their assistants. 94.9% of the managers were married and 56,4% were from Kayseri. Their mean duration of employment was 17.3 ± 7.7 years and their mean duration of working as a manager was 8.4 ± 6.9 years. The participants have framed in higher rates, issues such as using computers (60.3%), insufficient wages (59.9%), lack of authority regarding their work (57.7%), whereas problems such as the lack of legislative knowledge (25.6%), the lack of experience (16.7%), not being able to improve oneself due to workload (16.7%) were less framed. Work satisfaction was higher in managers working in hospitals, compared to those working in other institutions. Of the managers; 43,7% of them stated that they usually lost over an hour of their working time (78.0 + 37.2 minutes) due to unscheduled visits and phone calls. Intervention by managers outside their own institution and also by politicians was stated as the most troublesome part of their work (43.6%). In our study, it is found that health care managers do not feel they are adequate in some management features, they believe that the wage for their work is inconvenience. They feel discomfort about the intervention by politicians and external managers disproportionate in their work. Especially they want education in the computer training to eliminate the shortcomings
