This paper represents the importance of personal names (anthroponomy) as they appear in the OUoman detailed cadastral registers and some pointers for the researchers in onomastics. As man power was one of the basic factors for the OUomans, they recorded the names of every adult male capable of doing work as a tax payer regardless of his religion and race. Therefore, an extremely rich data of the personal names has been preserved through these registers. In this article the importance and the variety of these personal names have been pointed out, and their ethno-religious and socio-economic identities are scrutinized. Researchers in onomastics should pay specijic attention to this type of analysis and make every attempt to be impartial in their study of these names. In fact such studies will demonstrate, as it is also emphasized in this article, that the subjects of a multicultural and multi-religious society such as that of Ottornan Empire could not avoid social and c~ltural interaction so long they lived in peace and serenity.
