Toplumsal cinsiyetin ne olduğu, bu kavramın hayatımızda ne şekilde yer aldığı günümüzde çokça tartışılan bir konudur. Kişiye yüklenen ve toplumsal etkileşim yoluyla düzenlenen sosyal roller olarak karşımıza çıkan “toplumsal cinsiyet” kavramı, toplumdan etkilendiği kadar toplumu da etkilemektedir. Toplumda üstlenilen roller, bu role dair pratikler ve temsiliyet, kişinin bulunduğu toplumla olan ilişkisinde kilit roldedir. Kişi toplumun kendisine biçtiği rolü üstlendiği ve sürdürdüğü oranda toplum tarafından kabul edilir ve toplumun bir parçası olur. Bu durum kişiyi olduğu kadar yaşadığı çevreyi de etkiler, değiştirir ve dönüştürür. Bu bağlamda toplumsal değerlerle şekillenen “mekan” kişilerin üstlendiği toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin de somut yansımalarının okunabileceği bir kaynak olarak karşımıza çıkar. Toplumsal olarak nerede görüldüğümüz, bir anlamda hangi mekanla ilişkilendirildiğimizle de doğru orantılıdır denebilir. Bazı mekanların kimlerin deneyimine açık olduğunu veya ne şekilde deneyimlenebileceği, o mekanda kimin temsil edilip edilmediği toplumsal değerleri açık şekilde yansıtır. Toplumsal cinsiyet kalıplarıyla şekillenen kullanımı, mekanların da cinsiyetlenmesi ve doğal olarak da toplumsal cinsiyet farklılıklarını sürdürmesine neden olur. Mekanla kurduğumuz bu ilişki günlük hayatımızı şekillendirir. Bu anlamda sinema filmleri üretildiği toplumun sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel yapısına dair günlük hayat pratiklerinin gözlenmesi için sürekli güncellenen aktif bir araştırma alanı sağlar. Toplumsal cinsiyet ve sinema ilişkisinin mekan bağlamında karşılıklarının aranması ve elde edilecek verilerin mevcut literatüre katkı sağlayacağı düşüncesi bu çalışmayı yapmaktaki çıkış noktasıdır. Bu bağlamda, toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine dair performansların sergilendiği, özümsendiği ve sorgulandığı bir alan olarak da karşımıza çıkan sinema filmlerinde, toplumsal cinsiyet ve mekan ilişkisi analiz edilmiştir. Filmlerde kullanılan tüm mekanlarda kadın ve erkek karakterlerin özel ve kamusal alan başlıkları altında “mekanda bulunma” ve “mekanda temsil edilme” durumları incelenmiş ve toplumsal cinsiyet ve mekan ilişkisinin ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır.
What is social gender, how this concept is present in our lives, is a much discussed topic today. The concept of "social gender" which comes to us as social roles charged with the individual and organized through social interaction, affects the society as much as it is affected by society. The roles assumed in society, the practices and representation of this role are key in the relationship of the person with the society in which he is. The person is accepted by the society and becomes part of the society in the extent that the role that the society assumes and continues. This situation also affects, changes and transforms the environment in which a person lives as well. In this context, the social gender roles undertaken by the "mediate" people formed by social values are also seen as a source where the concrete reflections of the social gender roles can be read. It can be said that where we are socially seen, in a sense, it is proportionate to what place we are linked to. Some spaces clearly reflect the social values of who is open to experience or how they can be experienced, who is represented or not in that place. The use, formed by social gender patterns, causes the spaces to be gendered and naturally to maintain social gender differences. The relationship that we build with the place shapes our everyday life. In this sense, the film provides an active field of research that is constantly updated to observe daily life practices on the social, economic and cultural structure of the society where films are produced. The idea that social gender and cinema relationships are searching for their responses in the spatial context and the data to be obtained will contribute to the current literature is the starting point in doing this work. In this context, the performances on social gender roles are shown, absorbed and questioned as a field in the film films, the social gender and space relationship has been analyzed. In all the spaces used in the films, women and men’s characters under the private and public spaces titles have been studied the situations of “representation” and “representation in the spaces” and the social gender and spaces relationship is intended to be revealed.
What gender is and how this concept takes place in our lives are an issue that is widely discussed today. The concept of “gender”, which appears as social roles imposed on a person and organized through social interaction, affects society as much as it is influenced by society. The roles assumed in society, practices related to these roles, and representation play a key role in a person's relationship of the person with society. A person is accepted by society and becomes a part of society to the extent that he/she assumes and maintains the role assigned to him/her by society. This condition affects, changes and transforms the person as well as the environment. In this context, the “space” shaped by social values appears as a source where the concrete reflections of the gender roles assumed by the people can be read. It can be said that where we are seen socially is directly proportional to which space we are associated with in a sense. Who some spaces are open to experience or in what way they can be experienced, who is represented in that space or not, clearly reflects social values. Its use, shaped by gender stereotypes, also causes spaces to be gendered and, naturally, to maintain social gender differences. This relationship we establish with space shapes our daily lives. The starting point of this study is to search for the equivalents of the gender and cinema relationship in the context of space and to think that the data to be obtained will contribute to the existing literature. In this context, the relationship between gender and space has been analyzed in movies, which appear as an area where performances about gender roles are exhibited, assimilated and questioned. In all the spaces used in the movies, the situations of "being in the space" and "representation in the space" of the female and male characters under the titles of private and public spaces were examined and it was aimed to reveal the relationship between gender and space.
