Cinsel istismar her toplumda, yaş ve cinsiyet ayrımı olmaksızın görülebilmekle birlikte zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireyler cinsel istismar konusunda risk grupları içerisinde yer almaktadır. Çalışmamızda zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireylere yönelik cinsel istismar olaylarının ulusal haber ajanslarına yansıyan olgular üzerinden incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi kullanıldı. Bu kapsamda ulusal haber ajanslarının arşivlerinde belirlenen anahtar kelimelerle tarama yapıldı. Ulaşılan olgular içerik analizi yöntemiyle çözümlendi. Frekans analizleri SPSS 22.0 paket programı kullanılarak gerçekleştirildi.Olguların çoğunluğunun 12-17 yaş aralığındaki kadınlardan oluştuğu görüldü. Cinsel istismara maruz kalma oranın %50 ve üstü engel düzeyine sahip bireylerde daha yüksek olduğu belirlendi. İstismarcıların tamamına yakını erkek ve zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireyin daha önceden tanıdığı kişilerdi. Mağdurun yetersizlik durumunu kullanarak gerçekleştirilen cinsel istismar oranları, fiziksel şiddet kullanarak gerçekleştirilenlerden fazlaydı. Çalışmamızda cinsel istismar olaylarının ergenlik döneminde daha sık görüldüğünün belirlenmesi ve zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireylerin engel durumunu kullanarak gerçekleştirilen olayların çoğunlukta olması bireylerin cinsel istismara yönelik farkındalıklarını geliştirmeyi hedefleyen cinsel eğitim programlarına duyulan gereksinimi ortaya koymaktadır.
Sexual abuse can be seen in every society, without any age and gender difference, but individuals with mental disability are among the risk groups of sexual abuse. Our study aims to investigate the incidents of sexual abuse against individuals with mental disability through the facts reflected in the national news agencies. In the study, the research methods were used for document examination. In this context, the search was carried out with the keywords identified in the archives of national news agencies. Events were solved by the method of content analysis. Frequency analysis was carried out using the SPSS 22.0 package program.The majority of cases were found to be women between the ages of 12-17 years. The rate of exposure to sexual abuse was 50 percent higher in persons with a level of disability. All of the abuses were close to men and people with mental disability that the individual knew before. The rates of sexual abuse performed using the victim's insufficiency state were greater than those performed using physical violence. In our study, the determination that sexual abuse events are more common in adolescence and that the majority of the events performed using the status of a person with mental disability; the need for sexual education programs aimed at improving the awareness of individuals about sexual abuse.
While sexual abuse may be encountered in all societies without regards to age or gender, individuals with intellectual disability are among the risk groups in terms of sexual abuse. Our study aimed to investigate sexual abuse towards individuals with intellectual disability through cases that are reflected in national wire services. The qualitative research method of document analysis was used to obtain the data in the study. In this context, a search was made in the archives of national wire services. The news articles that were reached were analyzed by the method of content analysis based on the categories determined by the researchers. The frequency analyses were carried out using the SPSS 22.0 package software. It was seen that most intellectual disabilited individuals who were subjected to sexual abuse were female individuals at the ages of 12 to 17. The rate of being subjected to sexual abuse was found to be higher among individuals with disability degrees of 50% or higher. Almost all abusers were male and those who were previously known by the individual with intellectual disability. The rates of sexual abuses that were carried out by taking advantages of the disability of the victim were higher than those carried out by physical violence. The finding of our study that sexual abuse acts were seen more frequently in the victims’ adolescence period and that the majority of these acts were carried out by taking advantage of the victims’ disability indicates the necessity of sexual education programs that aim to develop awareness in individuals on sexual abuse.
