Abstract:

In the geography we live in, natural disasters are mostly caused by earthquakes, floods and landslides. It is important to determine the disaster awareness levels of the regions exposed to disasters and to develop educational content related to the subject. The research, which was planned in a semi-pattern, was applied to the students studying at Hakkari University Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO) between January-February 2022. There are 580 students between the dates specified in SHMYO. 262 volunteer students participated in the study. In the study in which the Personal Information Form and the Disaster Awareness Scale were applied, the average age of the students was 21.74±2.67, 64.9% were female, 69.8% were second grade, 32.8% had no experience of disaster, 34.4% He lives in the Eastern Anatolia Region. After the training, the total and sub-dimension mean scores of the participants increased significantly compared to the pre-training (p<0.05). Scale total and sub-dimension mean scores of those with disaster experience, and scale total and sub-dimension mean scores of those with disaster knowledge (except for the post-disaster sub-dimension) were significantly higher (p>0.05). After the education, the total and sub-dimension mean scores of those who did not have disaster experience and disaster knowledge increased significantly (p<0.05). The increase in the sub-dimension scores of AFÖ, pre-disaster and post-disaster, occurring according to the region of residence, is due to the students living in the Black Sea region. The mean score of the sub-dimension of awareness of pre-disaster and non-structural risks of those who are members of disaster-related organizations was found to be significantly higher. The increase in the total and sub-dimension mean scores of the students shows the effectiveness of the education provided.
