The Austro-Ottoman relations commenced with the Battle of Mohács continued until 1791. Throughout this process, many ambassadors came and went between the Ottoman and Austrian Empires and presented various reports. The Ottoman Empire, which initially tended not to send ambassadors unless necessary, as it adopted unilateral diplomacy, sustained this attitude until 1718, the Treaty of Passarowitz. Since this date, the Ottoman diplomacy had been open to change rather than being against it. Deciding to send ambassador reciprocally by both sides is the sing of this. It is possible to see the hints of the period in the reports written by ambassadors sent to Europa by the Ottoman Empire. These reports written by ambassadors played an important role in getting new perspective to many areas of the Ottoman Empire such as military, cultural, architecture areas. These situation which can be evaluated as reflection of altered diplomacy thought formed written documents attitudes changed against west in ambassador’s reports. Whether this alteration affected or contributed to the modernization of the Ottoman Empire formed the general aim of this study. Alteration in approach and attitude to each other reflected to reports as this study is centered on the Austro-Ottoman relations. Therefore, embassy reports became important sources in which could be observed Ottoman diplomacy and especially Ottomans altered west attitude. In this study, embassy reports related to Australia which are primary sources of Ottoman diplomacy have been examined and emphasized the impact of the modernization and the Ottoman Empire diplomacy by determining similarities and different sides of the reports. The hypothesis asserting that embassy reports have had direct influence on the diplomatic process and indirect influence on modernization has been employed. Consequently, it was determined how Ottoman Empire reflected the politic situation to the diplomatic and impacts embassy reports and Ottoman ambassadors and when these reports will be more effective.
