Introduction: Football is in constant technical-tactical evolution, which requires fast and assertive game readings and decision-making from athletes. Objective: To raise reflections regarding declarative tactical knowledge and visual recognition time in football players' game situations in different contexts (categories, positions and experiences) present in Brazil. Materials and Methods: Qualitative descriptive research. Five athletes from different categories, experiences and positions participated in the study by performing an online assessment of TacticUP. Athletes' experience in football was 16 ± 3.67 years. Result: the athletes' performance was qualitatively similar; The under-17 athlete had the shortest response time, suggesting that the experience factor was not decisive for the result. The competitive level was not identified as a parameter of better performance, since the university athlete stood out in relation to the professional athlete. Specific positions were identified in performance, i.e., players of more offensive positions performed better offensive actions. Conclusion: The results indicates that athletes from different categories may have differences in declarative tactical knowledge and visual recognition time in game situations, although this difference did not demonstrate a higher level of athletes from higher categories. Another consideration concerns the length of experience, which was not a decisive issue. As also analyzed, athletes from different positions, belonging or not to the same category, presented specific characteristics of their positions.
