Abstract:

In this study, the place of public diplomacy, which can be considered as a part of the field of media, communication and public relations studies, in the academic literature in Turkey is examined. For this purpose, books, articles and theses on the concept and phenomenon of public diplomacy were examined. Thus, the development of public diplomacy in academic literature over the years, the way it is handled and the areas that are connected, especially the field of media, communication and public relations studies, have been tried to be revealed with their general characteristics. In the article, the studies written on public diplomacy were subjected to content analysis using different scanning tools. “Google Search Engine” was used for academic books, publishing platforms such as “Google Scholar and ResearchGate” for articles, and “YOK National Thesis Center” lists were used for academic theses. According to the results of the study, public diplomacy started to take place in the academic literature in Turkey with the 2000s, and it was associated and discussed with the field of media, communication and public relations studies, as well as the field of international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy.
