Concept map, which shows concepts related with a subject and interconcept relations enables harmonious transfer and organization of data in problem solving. It is a method used to determine how students perceive and synthesize concepts as well as to assess their understanding of concept. Concept maps enable nursing students to employ their abilities to solve problems and thus to schematize care. It makes it easier for students to understand patients’ medical conditions, their reaction to illness and the relationships between nursing interventions. In this article, nursing care plan for a newborn hospitalized with the diagnosis of Respiratory Distress Syndrome type I, has been discussed through concept map, and their relationships have been demonstrated. In the case, firstly the physiopathology of the patient has been discussed in terms of RDS. Also discussed as primary concept are the patients’ history, term characteristics, symptoms, treatment and complications. The nursing diagnosis has been made in the light of the data obtained, and the interventions have been shown on the map altogether. In conclusion, concept map is a means which enables nursing students to have a holistic view, using their problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities, it is also a beneficial means to be employed in teaching, learning and evaluating
