Abstract:

This study attempts to give a voice to soccer in the TRNC and to take sport psychology in Northern Cyprus a step further in a scientific sense by adding a new one to the already existing studies in the field of sport psychology. Study for this purpose the population of the study consisted of 536 soccer players according to the official figures of the 2020-2021 soccer season and the sample consisted of 58 soccer players. The study was conducted under pandemic conditions. The study used the Rosenborg Self-Esteem Scale to analyze the self-esteem of soccer players. The scale developed by Rosenborg in 1965 consists of 63 items and 12 subscales, and the subscale 'self-esteem' consisting of 10 items was used in the study. Our demographic variables were marital status, number of years in professional soccer, position played, and education level. Since the normality assumption was met in the analysis of the data, parametric tests were used. T test was used to analyze self-esteem of soccer players as a function of the variable marital status; Anova was used to analyze self-esteem as a function of the variables educational level, number of years playing professional soccer, and position. When looking at the results, it was found that the self-esteem of those who were married according to the variable marital status and those who had university and master's/doctoral degrees according to the educational level were higher and more differentiated. In the light of the findings, it can be interpreted that being married and educated is effective on the self-esteem of the football players and it will make a significant contribution to the self-esteem of the footballers. The findings of the study were discussed within the framework of the literatüre and suggestions were made for future studies.
