Abstract:

This study aims at determining opinions of teachers of children with mental retardation on the individualized education program, their information level and the resources used by them when preparing individualized education programs. A qualitative study method has been used in the study. Nine (9) teachers working in a subprovince of Istanbul province have been selected from Marmara Region for the study group by purposeful sampling method. Semi-structured interview was applied to the teachers and the data were analyzed with inductive analysis method. This study supports observation and document analysis. Study findings have indicated the following: Programs were required to be prepared in a different manner. Individualized education programs were beneficial for the students, teachers and the parents. Difficulties were encountered during preparation of individualized education program. Numerous persons and institutions were benefited during the preparation of the individualized education program and unfortunately, teachers did not have adequate information on the preparation of individualized education program.
