Okul Yöneticilerinin COVID-19 Döneminde Uzaktan Eğitim Sürecine Dair Deneyim ve Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı, okul yöneticilerinin COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinde uzaktan eğitime ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemektir. Uzaktan eğitim olgusunun okul müdürleri için ne ifade ettiğini, bu süreçte neler deneyimlediklerini ortaya koymak için nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırma İstanbul ilinde bulunan beş ilkokul, beş ortaokul ve beş lisede görev yapan 15 okul yöneticisiyle yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu COVID-19 pandemisi döneminde uzaktan eğitim sürecinde okul yöneticisi olarak görev yapan okul yöneticileri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubu amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenmiştir. Verilerin toplanmasında yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Veriler betimsel analiz yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları COVID-19 salgını döneminde uzaktan eğitimin olumlu ve olumsuz deneyimlerinin olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Yüz yüze eğitime yönelik hazırlanmış müfredatın uzaktan eğitimde aynı şekilde uygulanmasının birçok zorluğa neden olduğunu görülmektedir.  Diğer bir taraftan dijital erişimi olmayan öğrencilerin EBA ve diğer dijital platformlara erişimlerini sağlamak amacıyla tablet dağıtım kampanyaları ve okullarda EBA Destek Noktaları oluşturulması önemli bir uygulama olarak görülmektedir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına dayalı olarak, eğitimde politika yapıcılar ve karar vericiler için, bazı derslerin uzaktan, bazı derslerin ise yüz yüze eğitim yoluyla verilebileceği hibrit bir eğitim modelinin uygulanmasına yönelik adımlar atılması önerilmektedir. Eğitim faaliyetlerinin sağlıklı bir şekilde yürütülebilmesi için uzaktan eğitim gibi ilk kez uygulanan eğitim stratejilerinde uygulayıcılara uzman görüşü almaları ve deneyim paylaşımında bulunmaları önerilmektedir.

Review of School Managers' Experience and Opinions on the Remote Learning Process in the COVID-19 Period

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to identify the views of school managers on remote education during the COVID-19 pandemic process. The phenomenon of distance learning has been used as one of the qualitative research methods to reveal what the phenomenon means for school managers, what they experience in this process. This study was conducted with five primary schools, five secondary schools and 15 school managers working in five high schools in Istanbul. The study’s work group is made up of school managers who worked as school managers during the COVID-19 pandemic period. The work group is determined by the sample method. In the collection of data, a semi-configured conversation technique was used. The data is analyzed by visual analysis method. The research results have shown that remote learning has positive and negative experiences during the COVID-19 epidemic. It is seen that the application of the prepared facade-to-face curriculum in the same way in distance learning causes many challenges.  On the other hand, the creation of tablet distribution campaigns and EBA Support Points in schools in order to provide students with non-digital access to EBA and other digital platforms is considered an important application. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that policy makers and decision makers in education take steps towards the implementation of a hybrid educational model in which some courses can be given from a distance and some courses can be given through face-to-face education. For the first time implemented training strategies, such as distance learning, the practitioners are advised to obtain expert opinion and share experiences in order to be able to conduct their educational activities in a healthy manner.

The purpose of this study was to determine the views of school administrators regarding distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study employed a phenomenological research design, which is one of the qualitative research methods. This research consisted of 15 school administrators who work at five elementary, five secondary and five high schools in Istanbul province. The study group was chosen from school administrators who served as school administrators in the distance education process during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study group was determined with a purposive sampling method. The data were collected with a semi-structured interview technique. The data were analyzed with descriptive analysis method. Research results reveal that distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic caused many difficulties in implementation of the curriculum. On the other hand, tablet distribution campaigns and establishment of EBA Support Points in schools provided easy access to EBA and other digital platforms for students from disadvantaged groups. As a result of this study results, it is recommended that some steps should be taken towards the implementation of a hybrid education model. In order for the training activities to be carried out in a healthy way, it is recommended that the practitioners receive expert opinion and share experiences in the training strategies applied for the first time, such as distance education.
