Abstract:

In Galen's moral understanding, it can be said that, on the one hand, Platon's three-part spiritual understanding, and on the other hand, Hipocrates' theory of the Misach is effective. In this regard, Galen, which offers a discretion of the influential philosophical and medical traditions of the period, is outside the tradition with the physicalist psychology. Galen, who sees the abilities of the soul as subject to the mood of the body, often shows a determinist understanding of the morality that means the provision of the soul. This is due to the fact that it is difficult to change the physical structure. On the other hand, Galen, which we can call both a physician and a "philosophical therapist", claims that early age education and obtaining habits can be changed "in the extent the habits allow". In this article, we will try to identify and evaluate the possibility that Galen has given to the human moral change and development in the context of the legends.
